I moved from Glasgow to Port Ellen with my wife in 1999 and we've never looked back. As an artist, I love the ever-changing light and moods of Islay. I enjoy getting out and about, walking, running and cycling. I took part in the 2008 Islay Half Marathon, after a very long illness and had a great time, raising money for Self Help Africa in the process. I also enjoy mending bikes, and along with my work as an artist, I run a cycle shop and repair service.
I paint landscapes and seascapes, mainly of Islay and the surrounding area. I only use the highest quality art materials. Not only does this mean a better image but also that the work will last as fresh and vibrant as when it was made. I believe that not compromising on standards represents the best value for money. I work mostly in oils, watercolours or pastels.
I am happy to take commissions, whatever the subject. I enjoy painting portraits of people or pets as a change from my usual landscapes and seascapes. The price varies depending on the medium and the size of the painting. Portraits can be rendered in charcoal, which is proving popular, from as little as £30. Typically, an oil portrait of 40x50cm will work out between £200 and £250 plus a delivery charge of £10.
I attend the Port Ellen Craft Market, and can be found in the Columba Hall on other days, too, (not Wednesdays and Sundays), as it also serves as my studio! For more information, visit my Web site or e-mail me.
