I have lived on Islay for 14 years, arriving initially for 6 months in 1994 to volunteer for the RSPB at Loch Gruinart and never left. I am a freelance ecologist and Islay's wildlife has enthused and inspired me to help encourage others to learn and appreciate the wealth of wildlife Islay has to offer visitors and residents, young and old alike.
I draw and paint watercolour images of wildlife, producing my own illustrations which I have crafted along with my knowledge of wildlife and habitats to produce a range of wildlife activity packs for children. My wide range of images, are also available on fridge magnets, keyrings or as a collage on placemats which can be made to order with a choice of images.
I trade as Green Bug Productions. The Wildlife Discovery Packs aim to be fun, educational and engaging, encouraging youngsters to look at and appreciate the wildlife they see around them, whether on Islay, other Scottish regions, on the seashore, or just in their back garden. The packs are aimed at the 5-10 year core age group. There are three Scottish regional packs (Islay; Hebridean; Highland), a Town Park & Garden Wildlife Discovery Pack, Seashore Wildlife Discovery Pack* and Minibeast Wildlife Discovery Pack* (*also available as a group packs).
I produce two colouring books. Prices range from £2.50 to £10. Wildlife placemats are available in A4 & A3 formats; Islay's wildlife mat is available for £3.00 / £4.50 or bespoke mats particularly good for children £5.00 / £6.50.
Orders can be made at the craft markets or for discovery packs also via my web site. All packs are ideal presents to post. I attend Port Ellen and occasionally Bruichladdich; all titles are available at the Islay Natural History Trust Visitor Centre in Port Charlotte. I can also be contacted by e-mail. More information about wildlife watching with children on Islay can be found at my other site: www.wildlife4kids.co.uk.
